A little about LD
Long career in life experience so far.
Started out as a maintenance engineer for the Forestry Commission in the UK.
Worked for a local car dealership as a vehicle technician.
Worked as a screen printer for an idiot of a boss. sadly.
Passed my truck test, spent 10 years driving trucks all over Great Britain.
Bought my own truck and spent a long hard five years trying to make a go of it, eventually selling up and in need of a holiday.
Helped my wife run a small catering company when I had time before we had children.
ALL CHANGE CHILDREN ARRIVE!
Began studying towards a BA Hons in Design I hope to leave my own mark on this planet.
Now furthering my design career my family and I reside in the beautiful county of North Yorkshire in England. I work for a local specialist fabrication company where we design and fabricate components for anything from process machines to fire fighting equipment. For the main part we work in stainless steel and aluminium, but we have worked with more exotic materials like titanium. I am employed as a design engineer and enjoy the daily challenges it brings.
I have a natural affinity with design. I appreciate great design and gaze upon its glory simple or complex. Show me bad design and I will cringe in disgust, but then immediately try to be constructive with my opinions and offer alternative ideas. Its not just about criticism because the next question is always " well whats your big idea then?! "
I have begun to develop some of my own design for retail and being able to produce small numbers at reasonable cost may just make it worth doing.
I have a love of cars and motorbikes that should probably be treated it is the reason I don't own a house, but at least renting offers flexibility! I still wouldn't change a thing. I have frozen half to death in cars to watch rallies, travelled around Europe to watch Formula 1 and visited many UK tracks to see bike racing. I have raced in go karts and taken part in lots of track days. My car portfolio goes something like this: at 17 a Renault 5 GT turbo plenty of vavavoom! Then a bike then a Ford XR3i, well everyone had one! I had a fiery Fiesta Supersport rare as hens teeth now! I once owned a mini pickup now worth many pennies. I bought a rusty mk2 1600 sport but never quite got there but then a mint MK1 RS2000 dubbed "the angry car" by friends because everywhere it went it shouted. After a few years of graft I bought my Holy grail, a Lancia Intergrale EVO. If it would have fitted down the aisle I would have married this car. But then I went behind her back and bought a Gallia Yellow Integrale. I sold the red love of my life and never gelled with my new partner. As payback for my betrayal not long after the engine of my truck blew and the bill was big, in fact huge. So I lost the car to save the business. It worked and we pulled through but that was the last proper car I have owned although I've had a few scary bikes! One day with creativity as my weapon my goal is to own another Intergrale, you can keep your house thanks I'll sleep in the car!
I hope you enjoy my blog and thanks for reading.
